Once the race hit the lower slopes of the Col du Galibier (for the second day in a row), it became clear to Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo) that the break away wasn't going to be chased down by the peloton. Not wanting to miss out on a chance to win a stage in the Tour, the Italian on the American team set off in hopes of bridging across to the escapees. As he neared the turn that would put him on the steeper roads of the climb to the top, he looked back to see just how much of a gap he had on the following peloton.
