Ending His Drought

Mark Cavendish (Etixx-Quickstep) punches his fist in the air as he glides over the line in Fougeres. With his victory, he ends a two year drought of wins in the Tour de France. The victory was very sweet for the sprinter from the Isle of Man, and it was a sweet victory for his team. Etixx-Quickstep had the disappointment of having their man in the Maillot Jaune, Tony Martin, unable to start today after falling in the last kilometer of Stage 6. Cavendish's victory also brings the third stage victory in this year's Tour to the team.

You may have noticed that there was no Yellow Jersey to be seen today. It was decided that since Tony Martin held the jersey, it would have to be awarded at the end of the stage to the man who started the day in second (unless the results of the day changed who that may be). So on the podium this evening, Chris Froome (Team Sky) pulled back on the Maillot Jaune that he had ceded to Tony Martin two days ago.
