Getting Back On
Today being Bastille Day, the French had high hopes for one of their countrymen to take the stage. Last year the 14th of July saw a Frenchman, Tony Gallopin (Lotto Soudal) start the day in the Maillot Jaune, although he ceded it back to Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) by the end of the day. So today there was high hopes for Warren Barguil (Giant Alpecin) who had taken several mountainous stages in the last Veulta d'Espania. It appeared that those hopes were going to be dashed when the young Barguil took a hard fall on his right hip. He lay in agony on the side of the road as the race doctor and his team attended to him. It look like he wasn't going to be able to continue and his team director sent his teammates off up the road to aid John Degenkolb in the intermediate sprint. However, this being the Tour de France, Barguil was determined to get back on the bike and stay in the race. He was later able to rejoin the peloton and actually was a player in the final climb.
