After spending most of the day in a breakaway, Fabio Taborre, decided on a climb that his fellow escapees were going a little too slow, so off he went. It is a tall order for a solo rider to hold off the peleton and he may have made it until some of the favorites decided to attach. He was caught by the 2012 winner, Ryder Hesjedal, with less than 15K to go. The guy holding the red flag, is an Italian motorcycle policeman, who scoots ahead of the race then stops to warn the racers of potential dangers along the way. These lucky officers will stay with the race all of the way around Italy.
